Behavioral Health Tech - Crisis Triage Center
Hiring Range: $20.07 - $24.58 per hour

Additional Shift Differentials as high as $1.25 per hour

Shifts can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a Behavioral Health Technician to join our Crisis Triage Center (CTC) team. The CTC provides 24/7 stabilization services for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis, and our technicians are vital in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment. In this role, you’ll work closely with the clinical team to support client recovery and ensure client safety, while helping individuals move toward stability and wellness.

 

General Summary of Duties:  The Behavioral Health Technician provides on-going assistance to clients in 24/7 Services while maintaining a safe and therapeutic work environment. To act appropriately in assisting clients in meeting their daily basic needs for health and safety and treatment objectives as directed by the treatment team.
 
The Behavioral Health Technician assists in the operations of KMHS in support of its stated mission, and provides the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers.
 
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
 
Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
  • Take appropriate measures to meet client daily basic needs for health and safety including but not limited to the following tasks:
    • Prepare and serve meals,
    • Conduct safety checks of the units,
    • Monitor clients according to the assigned levels of observation,
    • Conduct Medication Observation, including appropriate documentation in the paper record and controlled substances log
    • Assist in maintaining a clean work environment,
    • Assist in maintaining sufficient inventory of food and non-food items, and
    • Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Participate in client activities as directed by a supervisor including but not limited to:
  • Facilitate approved group activities such as arts and crafts, games, nature walks.
  • Take referrals appropriately
  • Complete all electronic and paper documentation involved in providing direct client care as outlined in the appropriate KMHS guidelines, manuals, policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Paperwork relating to admission and discharge
    • Shift notes
    • Medication paperwork and logs
    • Environmental checks
    • Safety checks
    • Other forms as needed
  • Attend all mandatory trainings on time and as scheduled.
  • Keep current on all required documentation (i.e., food handler’s permit, counselor licenses, etc.).
  • Support behavioral tech level staff coverage across other 24/7 units if need.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor that are appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
  • Proven ability to understand and follow written instructions, workplace documentation, policies and protocols. 
  • Effective verbal communication skills and a basic math skills required.
  • Capable of accurately completing written documentation and forms as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Able to follow both written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision required.
 
EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience).
 
LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration. Valid Washington Food Handler card. 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Relevant experience working with clients with behavioral health and substance use.
 
Performance Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in ProAct/CPI trainings and other agency-mandated trainings.
  1. Maintain knowledge of CTC policies and procedures and work collaboratively with the CTC Leadership.
SKILLS:
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Proficiency in MS applications preferred. 
 
ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.
 
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
 
Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
 
Mental/Physical Requirements:   
  • Ability to maintain audio and visual observation at all times. 
  • Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, hold and lift as needed to successfully evade and/or participate in protective holds against client weight (40 -250lbs).
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to remain calm and utilize safety training in potentially assaultive client interactions.
  • Ability to move quickly and confidently to assist or intervene when needed in potentially stressful situations.
  • Successful completion of safety training, which includes demonstration of ability to:  maintain balance, torso twist, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
